Peaces of me...

April 29/03

James is in Ottawa this week. He called out to the kids to say goodbye but this time there was no response. In our minds though we both heard the patter of little feet all running down the stairs to wrap there arms around daddy and blocking the door so he couldn't escape. I can see them wrapping their bodies around his legs as he tried to walk Frankenstein style to the door. I prefer that memory to the silence he heard this time.

Nadia was wrapped in a towel for a shower when she looked out the bathroom window and was terrified to see a man's heads in the second story window on our roof. Nadia was trying to keep him out of the house so she grabbed the doorknobs of the girl's bedroom and the bathroom and held the doors shut and shouted to wake Brent up for help. Brent looked out the window and assessed that the guy had to be a roofer inspecting our roof. The roof guy gave me a can of Maple Sugar. Yes it is time to do our roof. We are one of the lst to have it done, it doesn't look bad but you can see some wear.

Monica borrowed our Wheel barrel on the way to the annual Tree Planting with the school for Earth Day. I came to take pictures after walking the dog and she was terribly upset that the wheelbarrow was missing. She spent the whole time looking for it. I went across the creek via the bridge, followed the Trail and finally spotted it high up on a hill. By the time I wheeled in back it was time to go home. Monica asked the Principal if she could bring it home because you pass our house on the way back and she was given permission. Back at school an angry Mr. H. balled her out for going home saying that it was disrespectful even though she had permission. Sometimes you just can't win.

At April's select practice April lost her number 13 to Erin. Jodi has always been on the other select team and wore the same number. Meagan won the number on a coin toss. Jodi ended up with the number even though she was the last pick because she got all teary eyed. April was upset because she got a new bag last season and she would have been the only kid that could have actually used last years uniform, but ended up picking number 77 after she got home.

Stacy and Sullivan went to the movies with Brent, but Brent left unannounced in another car without them. Stacy wouldn't make Sullivan supper after he was working an extra long day, she has to learn how to cook, and I am getting frustrated that she wouldn't even try.

Sullivan brought Brent 'hammock' underwear. He came over with a number of sunglasses and underwear for James too. Stacy looked quizzical about the whole matter, but Sullivan told us that he was allowed to take some merchandize home. He is a mover so I can't see how that can be. I hate to think that he might be stealing in a misguided attempt at giving us presents. This just doesn't feel good at all.

Derrick watched TV in Nadia's room, it is so messy in there I don't understand how she can be comfortable with him in that mess.

April 28/03

Brent wasn't in his bed this morning and didn't say that he would be away. We phoned him a couple of times today but no answer.

Monica had to defend April's name at school today, the kids are blaming April for telling on Alan for the break in. Jeff is getting it too. So this is going through the high school and the elementary school. Isn't that just perfect. Gang mentality could hurt an innocent person- my daughter.

April was bothered at school today by grade 10's and grade 9's. Laura had a talk with her and understands that she didn't tell on them but Chelsea is telling everyone that she "ratted" on them. Apparently Brandy, Ashley and Aaron all broke into the school on Friday night and were in trouble at the office too.

Alan is getting suspended for 2 weeks and he is being charged and Ashley and Eric got a short suspension- apparently Brandy didn't go in to the school.

Nadia went out with Kelly shopping and bought an outfit that she is very happy with. Later she went out with Derrick, but I don't know where.

Cory was pushing around a kid at school today, but stopped short and said it wasn't worth it. Monica couldn't understand why he was doing that. Hormones.

I edited Stacy's book report tonight and it weighed heavy on my mind. Stacy has been reading a book on anorexia and some of the story I could tell her before she told me. I was playing that game before I ever heard a name for it but thank god I recognized what I was doing even though I was doing it a number of times. The last time was when Joanie called and she was desperate for her daughter Carrie, to understand what she was going through. Joanie asked me some questions to help her understand and I told her that I didn't know and she got mad at me and said that my weight was always questionable so I had to be doing stuff like that. She got so mad and upset that I started to think about what Carrie must be thinking and then I realized that when James was trying to understand about 7 years ago, he physically made me get on the scales and I grabbed a wrench and a big screwdriver to put them in my pocket to add weight to the scales. I told her to check Carries pockets before she was weighed and she said that Carrie was already adding coin to her pockets. That conversation shook me into reality and at that point I tried my best to put back my proper weight, that my weight would no longer be the topic of discussion.

I would like to talk to my kids about it, I am embarrassed that I had to go through that, but I know that it was a combination of being raped and my determination to stand up against my mother that made me feel like I needed to be in control of something in my life and it was my weight. Funny but I was always conscious about being too skinny, it bothered me, so I really didn't fit the criteria for an anorexic girl, but after what happened to me I thought that if I was that skinny again, that I wouldn't look good, so I wanted to be skinny and not look feminine, to make the guys not interested in me, to keep them away. That was the only reason I wanted to be thinner. The funny thing was that I met James when I was very thin, so I am thankful that my way of thinking was so flawed! A down point in my life was when Nadia was about 12 years old and asked me if I was anorexic but then my mom put her up to it.

Brent phoned after I got my pj's on, he spent the day with TJ. He had gone to Don Cherry's the night before and then to Hunter's Horn. He slept over at TJ's. He is all burned on his face and his arms. I asked about school, I think he is not going to his exams but he says that he is, I just don't see him going to school.

More volleyball and today they played a lot better, I don't know if was the pressure being off a little because the main coach wasn't there. He is great at practice, knowledgeable and supportive but the looks he gives in real play sometimes he looks moody. The other coaches said that Monica puts the weight of the team on her shoulders and maybe that is so. I have never noticed her being nervous at any other sport except when she was very little. But she hasn't been feeling well, doesn't like me mentioning it and the only reason I know that there is a problem is that many times when we go to leave home she is in the bathroom and keeps us waiting for quite a while. She doesn't want me to call the doctor so I will have to keep my eye on her.

We went out to lunch and I was terrified when I all of a sudden couldn't remember what our kitchen looks like at all. It took me about 5 minutes to finally have a vague recollection. Maybe it was because of the headache that I had all day but it frightened me.

Monica, James and I got into words today and I was so mad at Monica, I couldn't talk or look at her. She blames me for everything, I am her whipping boy and I won't take it anymore. She doesn't want any information given out about her at all, the fact that she was sick yesterday, no one should know. Instead they think she has a bad case of nerves. Her moods are getting the best of her and she can't contain it or hide it, maybe teenage hormones but I am not being part of her problem. She apologized in the evening and hugged me and laid against me for a long time.

Tara is being all mad at April for the Alan getting arrested for break and entering, doesn't think anyone should have called the police. Since April was with the person who phoned, then she is to blame. Chelsea and Tara are such special friends aren't they? - right.

Stacy was with Sullivan all day, he stayed over night but she also had homework to do.

Nadia missed her practice because she was hurting so much but went out to the Eaton Center in Toronto with Natasha and her mom. I wish she had worked out and prepared for the practice.

April made Al's team it looks pretty strong this year. Al is looking forward to about 6 to 8 tournaments, which is too much for us. That is being more serious, as if it was a rep team.

Brent went out in the evening, he worked today and his back is a little better.

April 26/03

I feel kind of weird leaving the house with Sullivan asleep downstairs so I woke Stacy up as I usually do. If they have time in the morning together, then maybe she could see her friends later. I don't want her friendships with her girlfriends to suffer. I am not worried about her being alone with him she is old enough to understand and I really don't think she would take advantage of time alone because I honestly think that she wants to wait for things like that. And I don't think that I am thinking like a mother. I think that I know her that well.

Provincial Volleyball Tournament for Monica. They didn't do too well and the coach played a player like Tiff who doesn't come to tourneys or practices, I don't get it, and she is one of the weaker players. Her dad is incredibly tall so are they looking at little Tiff for the future? Monica had to leave just before it ended because she wasn't feeling well so she was home for the rest of the day.

Brent was at work for about 2 hours and then they told him to go home because his back is bothering him so much.

Had some beer in the neigbourhood, it went right to my head. Sullivan made supper for everyone, hamburgers and hot dogs.

Stacy went to the school play with Amy and Sullivan.

Nadia had a 4 hour practice today, they ended up playing a game. She is so sore and so sunburned.

April was out in the neighbourhood for the day, feeling a lot better. For some reason she was with Josh Baker and they saw Alan break into the school and steal pop. He gave the pop away to kids, Tara and Chelsea were among them. Josh Kegs phoned the police and now the kids think that April did it and are calling her a tattletale. Great. James and I went for a walk today in the park and we saw some basketballs around the schoolyard and I mentioned at the time that we had given one of them to the school. James kicked it and it needed air so we just presumed that the school had discarded it. We should have known better.

Email from my cousin Donna

Hi Annie

Well since my last email, things have certainly 'heated' up for Toronto It's inconceivable to think an organization , headquarted in Europe , can have such a disastrous affect on a city and country thousands of miles away. Such an unfair wrap! What is going on??
It's quite a mess and your city is paying dearly for an overzealous approach to a health concern

I guess my main concern is how are all of you doing through all of this?
Let me know when you have a minute.

Love Donna

Hi Donna!
I know the restaurants in some areas of Toronto are suffering especially Chinese ones but I just went out to dinner yesterday to celebrate my 49th and the place was packed. I think people realize that you don't go anywhere if you are sick, keep your hands clean and life goes on. Unfortunatly it looks like our economy will suffer because of the World Health Organization. Hopefully things have settled down and they are able to trace almost all the infections to a known path so I believe them when they say it is now under control.

It does feel like it is getting out of hand here, it is cold and flu season and everyone is so paranoid. I took Brent into a clinic to get a fitting for a finger brace (he has a hyperextended finger) and we were met with people in masks, we had to sign forms assuring them that we have not come in contact with anyone with sars and they made us wash our hands going in and out of the place. You feel so dirty.

Right now my daughter April has been sick, throwing up, no fever or cough, but I know she has been no where near anyone where she could get anything like that, but she is worried. I don't want to go to the doctor with her like she wants because that is where you could get infected, right? We just have to use common sence and hopefully it will all pass.

Monica is in a Provincial Volleyball Championships this weekend and a team has protested that any teams from the Toronto area and Durham area where we are from, not be allowed to attend. Fortunately the OVA has realized that it would be silly to do such a thing and it will go on.

Meanwhile Stacy is still limping, still waiting for her knee to be scoped, she is scheduled for the first week in May now so I hope they will allow these elective surgeries to resume. Think of the backlog they will have.

How about those Maple Leafs eh? We will just have to cheer for Vancouver and Ottawa.

Bye

---------------------

Nadia had her golfing tournament today, they had great weather.

I talked to Nadia about her weight again today. The news mentioned that an overweight woman had a 20% increase in cancers. I am really worried about her.

Monica had to write 75 lines for saying shut up to Cory at school. She is being smart mouthed lately especially at home.

I bought a back brace for Brent today, his back is really bothering him.

Nadia and Derrick went to the movies, Identity. She stayed upstairs in her room with Derrick when it was so messy, I don't understand.

Stacy had Sullivan over; he came right from work and stayed with the family until she got off her work. They went to a movie, a bad movie ----- and then to the food court.

Brent went out with TJ to the movies , Identity too.

April 24/03

Birthday!
Annual face inspection was cut short, I don't seem to have time to dwell on what I was and what I am now. I am comfortable with me so I don't worry about what I look like - too much. I haven't worn makeup in about a year or two, don't miss it at all! So I think I won't give botox or any other quick fix a thought right now!

I went to bed at 11 last night which has been early by recent standards. TJ's mom phoned this morning to say that she didn't come home and that she has school today so I guess she got in trouble for sleeping here. Derrick stayed overnight too, I didn't realize that he has no school anymore. Steve and Keith were here last night too. They must have come here late because Brent got off work at 10pm.

April woke up a couple of times, she is not feeling well and threw up even the gravol. She stayed home today and had to miss her select tryouts.

Brent was fitted for a brace today for his finger. His finger is hyper extended more than 30 degrees, that is the most they can check for so he has an extreme case.

Stacy was threatened with suspension for wearing an inappropriate top, a male teacher complained that you could see Stacy's stomach - it was one of her lower tops. He should stop staring at her stomach. She went right from psyhio to Sullivan's house.

James and I went to Tuckers for my birthday and brought Gramma with us. My supper was free because I am the birthday girl!

Just as we got home we got a call from Stacy in Scarborough saying that the battery was dead in my van and she was stranded. I phoned Grammie and asked to her go help them but the van's battery wouldn't keep a charge.

James and I went out and James started to get agitated that Stacy was out there, reminded me that she was only 16 and I had no right to let her go out there to bad old Scarborough. I told him she was 17 and had to learn and do things on her own. He said she was closer to 16 and I said that she was actually closer to 18.

When I reminded him that she had to experience life and this was no big deal- more like an adventure, and that we probably made Grammie's night, he changed into his old pleasant self. I guess James will always try to protect Stacy, but she is doing fine the way she is being more independent.

Stacy was with Sullivan in Morningside Park (a park that used to be so familiar to James and I). We called a tow truck after the police came and checked on us. We drove through Timmy's and drove Sullivan home. I am glad to hear that Sullivan was pleasant the whole evening, that his good nature wasn't affected by there plans being squashed.

Brent had to walk home from No Frills tonight. It took him 45 minutes. His back is very sore today, I guess walking home didn't help it but what can you so?

April 23/03

I went to bed last night, but got up when I realized that Brent was alone. I try to stay up with him in the nights because that is when I get time with him to myself, we have been that way for years. When he was a younger teenager he would purposely wake me up and we would talk for hours so I am glad we still have that time together every now and then. Brent's head and jaw is really hurting from the scuffle with Alex. I hope he is all right to sleep tonight but he doesn't want me to try and walk him up every couple of hours.

April is in a foul mood. She tried to ditch her friend Leanne for a ride because she is annoying. If she was annoying all along like April says, then why did she invite her in our car in the first place? Stacy is upset because April yelled at Sullivan yesterday for turning the TV and even when it was back to her channel, she was still yelling that it was not the right channel, which it was.

April is quitting Lacrosse, which is too bad because she was getting a lot of exercise that she needs. April told me that Steve told her that Sullivan was drunk and punched Steve in the nose and he woke up in a huge puddle of blood. Stacy just shook her head. Sullivan had one beer and a lot earlier one small drink with us. He was not in any way drunk. I already know that he is not a big drinker. I got the story of his nose from Brent but Stacy said that as far as the puddle of blood, the only blood that Steve saw was the blood on Stacy's hands because it had already been cleaned up. I still think he is trying for Stacy and this way he is trying to get other people, maybe even people who don't know him after Sullivan. I don't like this at all, I am very disappointed in Steve, these little tales are all coming back to Steve. Brent said that he told April that because it was embarrassing but that Brent told everyone at work the true story because is funny, so that Steve is going to get teased a lot at work and then at school.

We asked Derrick if he would be interested in fixing our walkway this summer.

Nadia wrote her proposal for the NHL to try to get a summer job there. Fortunately she already started one folder of what she proposes so they will have an idea of what she is selling them. Nadia found out that her group got 100% for the fundraising dance and the teacher said that he is a hard marker.

Monica was very happy with her day today, she had a lot of sports like she used to before the teacher's work to rule. She had a double period of gym, where they played volleyball and Cory and her set and hit together. After school they played an hour of soccer for the homework/sports club. At 6:30 she went to baseball practice and then to volleyball for 2 hours. Life can't get any better!!!

April went out with Chelsea and Tara tonight. She hasn't seen them like that for most of this month. I guess that Tara did win what she wanted and that is to try and put a wedge in between April and my relationship. I thought April saw through what she was doing in December when Tara lied about me talking to her mom about Tara's mom pushing Tara down the stairs. It just didn't happen and she tried to make April not tell me about it but I overheard April protesting that I didn't and I wouldn't talk to her mom about something like that. April wanted to ask me and Tara wouldn't let her. April doesn't talk to me the way she used to, I am out of her confidence. It was never a battle between Tara and me, rather my closeness toward April she had a problem with. She is against any closeness that a parent shares with a teen. Tara is a bright girl who manipulates by getting the parent out of the picture. She tried to come in between Fran and Erin too on MSN, but Erin was showing Fran every step of the way what Tara was trying to do and Fran was able to back up her daughter. April hasn't been talking to me about her private life for months now and I miss it.

Stacy bought new light blue shoes for her Prom Dress. Stacy told me that Jodi has told people that she is sick of Sullivan. I told Stacy that she probably wanted Sullivan and this is just the way she is handling the situation and not to worry. It is worrying me though, because of what Sullivan had to go through it will not take much for Brent and the boys to put Sullivan out of favour again, so I hope Jodi doesn't use this to her advantage. Sullivan might have an uphill battle on his hands for quite a while.

April 22/03

Annie - yes.. those parties...I wonder in years to come, looking back, if it will end up being a good idea. I have had a cop really drill me about what I thought I was doing but I still think kids will do it anyway and if I can make it a safe place they might learn to enjoy and learn about drinking without too much pain involved. I had a friend die at 18 yrs old from drinking and I always thought from that point that people need to learn how to drink.

Jake - i personally believe in years to come that you will find that it was the right thing to do because anything Done in a more controlled safer environment is a lot better then watching kids go out to like bush parties and things like that because it's very hard for one drunk kid to look after another drunk kid if a serious problem was too occur

Annie - I always thought that Brent passed out in a creek at a bush party years ago but when he turned 19 I was able to ask him and his friends a lot of questions and it wasn't him but the person it was I never would have guessed, he said he learned his lesson but it could have turned out bad.

Jake - yeah bush parties are extremely dangerous there is nothing but bad news when they do happen....i never went to any bush parties there was something about drinking outside in the woods that just never appealed to me

Annie - Anyway I have to go downstairs and talk Stacy into going to bed, she still studies too much. We took the messenger services off all computers except this one, my younger kids are on them too much and weren't doing there work, so Stacy uses the basement computer a lot now.
good night Jake

Annie - our Internet went down, I don't know if you got my last message but good night anyway!

Jake - ok well night mrs Edwards and thanks again you've been a lot of help

Annie -night Jake

Brent phoned for a drive home from TJ's after I had changed into my pj's, but I wanted to talk to him about work so I had no problem with getting out of bed. I told him to keep the No Frills job, and the 30 hours a week for the summer, and have fun for the summer. He always tries to pack too much in and the demands that he expect never hold up, so relax, have a fun summer and then work full time hours in the fall. I guess I really don't sound like a mother but I want what I know he can do and he needs to have some fun combined with work.

Nadia had to finish her collage for her teachers today so I went in and they had to print it off twice. When Nadia tried to frame it the frame wouldn't fit so we had to do some smart brainstorming but when put a boarder around it and it finally worked. I had to go to the OC 3 times for it.

Between that and taking April to select try outs we managed to make supper but one by one the kids left so here was lots of food. Sullivan took the second last piece of chicken and Stacy kept trying to stab pieces of it with her fork from his plate and finally got one. I put the last piece on his plate and she needed a new knife so she was washing off mine and when she came back Sullivan was trying to chew the whole piece in his mouth. Stacy was laughing so hard, she loves stuff like that. She got accepted into 2 universities today, York and Trent but she wants University of Toronto

We had the neighbours over to watch the Leafs lose game 7, the kids were rocking the second floor.

Monica went over to Cory's for the game, Nadia was at Derrick's.

Brent, Stacy and Sullivan went to the Alexio's where they had wrestling matches. I heard two Steve's story of how he was knocked out by Sullivan. Brent said as Sullivan was wrestling with Stacy, he flicked his hand, in Steve’s face. Steve stood up and staggered to his knees and then passed out in a pool of blood. Stacy said that her and Sullivan were play fighting and Steve came over and put up his fists and exchanged some harmless flicks. Sullivan open handed him in the nose! Apparently he bled for quite a while. Brent got jarred in the chin, wrestling Alex and he still feels light headed. Sullivan got a bloody nose too, but nothing compared to Steve's. It sounds like it was a frenzy of flying fists!

April 21/03

Nadia forgot to wakeup this morning for school and Derrick came to the door in a hurry to get to school! She reshed to print out her resume too but they made it.

We had a strange visitor today. A kid from down the street came into our house a couple of times and made himself at home. His mother came to our door and said that our little boy could play with him another day. I said I didn't have a little boy or a little girl for that matter, that my youngest was 13, she didn't know what to say. If he does it again we might have to lock our doors for a while!

Stacy went with Sullivan to find a tux for him. She couldn't remember the colour of her dress. She went to his house to watch the game but had to come home when overtime was imminent so she could do homework. Leafs won in second overtime! It is interesting to see Stacy try to fit homework in and see as much of Sullivan as she seems to need to. It is so strange to me, for someone like Stacy who was so set in her ways about when she should see a boy and the homework always coming first to scrambling to work everything around Sullivan. She really likes him a lot, you can tell. She smiles every time she talks about him and when she sees pictures of him she smiles and says, "he's so pretty!" Already she has been with Sullivan more than in the almost 2 years she went out with Jessie and she is loving it! He seems to be just what she needs, someone to inspire her to have fun, laugh, talk seriously or lightly, and just to be near.

It is 11:30pm and Brent has not come home yet today! Nadia is at Derrick's for the game.
April had Brit in for a while and then went to Jeff's to watch the game until it got to late.

Jake - hi mrs Edwards

Annie - Hi how about those leafs!

Jake - haha oh i love it i was at work listening to the game on the radio i brought in and the announcer in overtime was killing me with all the posts and chances just missing

Annie - the leafs were playing so well, this time and phillies goalie was so cocky about being bored that we just had to win. Nadia is not a drinker at all but she has this blue drink that she thinks she has to drink for the leafs to win and those overtime games are so funny because she can't handle it and her tonge is all blue.

Jake - haha well if it seems to work, might as well keep it up lol

Annie - yes but she is only good for two drinks, you should have seen her the other night for triple overtime with 6 drinks in her, she was laughing so hard and she had the hickups, all for her team.

Jake - haha at least there's no quitting on her team right

Annie - we have a family hockey pool, Brent wasn't here to pick his team so Nadia picked for him and he is 15 points ahead of 2nd place, not fair.

Annie -- are you in any pools?

Jake - actually yeah i got mrs weston one of my teachers at school to sneak in an entry into the teachers pool for me

Annie - good...she is a great teacher how are you doing in the pool?

Jake - i dunno i have to get her to check for me when i go back to school this week yeah she is like having a mom at school to me

Annie - night Jake

Jake -oh mrs Edwards i wanted to ask u something if its ok

Annie - ok

Jake - i know u said trace started dating a guy last weekend but i was wondering what u thought about me still askin Stacy to prom cause i really have been thinkin about it for a while now and i really don't think i'd want to take anybody else to prom

Annie - That is so nice of you, but they went out today and put a hold on a tux so she has already asked him to go

Jake - ok thanks a lot mrs Edwards

Annie - No problem you guys have a history and you ended up good friends and I am happy that she met you.

Jake - thats really nice of u to say i'm really happy that her and i crossed paths and she really does mean a lot to me and i hope she knows i've always been lookin over her and will continue to be there for her if needed

Annie - That is the way I have always thought of you with her and I always felt better when you were at the parties we have had, you kind of looked out for what was going on.

Jake - thats one of the reasons i usually didn't drink so that if anything was ever to happen that i would be able to do something i just tried to take the mature look at things

April 20/03

I talked with Nadia about her downstairs adventures with Derrick and she said that I didn't have a problem with it before and that just is not true. Every time I have talked to her about it. James doesn't know and he will hit the roof if he is the one to figure it out next time. I do not approve.

Nadia says that Natasha is very sad, not the same girl she can be and she should break up with John. He won't go anywhere anymore, just watches TV. She needs to do things that young people do and experience life. John is on anti depressants but he has been this way for a long time now. I think Nadia is her only outlet right now.

I gave the kids bags of candy for Easter along with their significant others.

We went to Gramma's for Easter dinner, buffet this time. Sullivan and TJ both came with us. Eight people were missing.

April told me that if she could only have one best friend for always it would be Jeff because "We think alike."

Cory came over with Cody about 10:30 and stayed for a couple of hours.

icq message

Jake - i was wondering if i could ask u something?

Annie - sure

Jake - i was wondering if Stacy was planning to go to prom and if she had a date

Annie - yes she is and she just started to go out with a new guy last weekend. She did say last year that you might have taken her last year so I am glad that you guys still know each other like that.

Jake - oh ok thank u mrs Edwards

Annie - your welcome

I told Stacy that Jake was going to ask her to the Prom and she hadn't asked Sullivan at all so Stacy gave Sullivan a little note that he found in his pocket when he left the car. The note asked him to go to the Prom with her. Nice. I just hope she didn't feel pressured into asking him because she didn't mention it before. Sullivan isn't even from her school and they just started to go out.

I drove Brent and TJ home tonight but Brent stayed over at her house for the night. He says that he is going to quit No Frills, a job he actually likes to find a job that has more hours for the summer.

Cute baby! T-shirt obviously bought by father!!What a difference in generations though, I noticed that Nadia sent James and you that email (I get some pretty wild ones from Meagan too!! that I have probably forwarded on) but can you imagine if we ever sent something like that to our mothers (if computers had of been invented when we were kids) or even had shown them a picture or even described the picture to them. We as parents have a more open, honest relationship with our kids Sometimes its hard because they might give you too much information that you don't really want to know but it works out better in the long run. I know my parents - loved them dearly - just pretended nothing was ever wrong in our family, you just dealt with it and life went on... that's why I admire you so much on the way you have kept so involved with your kids activities and social lives - you're ready for any surprises - you should write a book - I'd buy the first copy!!

I know what you mean Laurie; we can't pretend that nothing wrong is happening because even the TV commercials show more things than we would like our kids to know. We have to impress to them what our thoughts are because others views are being forced on them. So if we want our kids to form clear proper intelligent decision-making, we have to somehow make sure our opinions get through to them too. Then they can and will make their own minds up.

April 19/-3

I took the neighbourhood kids to Reids dairy for milkshakes. April caught me off guard when she yelled "look everyone a Faggot". I felt nothing but dread as I forced myself to look where April was pointing, just another time for her to embarrass me. I have learned long ago to make it quick although it might be painfully embarrassing to just acknowledge where or whom April is talking about. Sure enough on the roof of the van next to us was a bundle of wood! The kids all thought it was hilarious because April had told them earlier what a faggot was.

It was a beautiful day so the neighbours were all out. Marita, Olivia and Shawn had cranberry vodka refreshments in the afternoon

Nadia had friends from school for the afternoon and evening to watch hockey. James drove them back to the residence because they were drinking.

Stacy and Sullivan went out with Brent and Amy and TJ, looking for a place to go. Jodi was supposed to be making arrangements but got mad at them for phoning, so they are not too happy with her. I am pretty sure that Jodi really liked Sullivan and seeing them together bothers her. She liked Jess C. when Jessie liked Stacy too so this is just a deja vu to her. Stacy didn't enjoy watching TJ all over Brent especially when Brent threatened her that she better not try anything with Sullivan in front of anyone, not that she would anyway.

Sullivan’s plans to stay at Jodi's or the The Doobie Brothers's fell through so he stayed here. I was thinking about that and I remembered something that I haven't thought of in years. Scott, my out of town boyfriend used to stay at my house and my mom and dad never thought a thing about it. My friend Craig used to stay at my house too and mom loved having him over.

A defiant Jodi, flanked by many guys paraded to our house, armed with stacks of dirty pylons. They planned to set them up in Brent's bedroom as a joke, but I blocked their way and told them Brent's door was locked. Jodi was acting weird, not the girl I have come to know as I stood between her and her juvenile plan. She was enjoying power over all these kids that she seemed to be manipulate them all. I held my ground and I stared her down and she finally backed down. I was surprised that she had the nerve to come over to our house when she had basically stood up my kids for the people she was with.

Derrick stayed overnight in the basement. Unfortunately Nadia stayed downstairs and I am very upset with her about doing that.

Good Friday, so we slept in which hardly ever happens, no sports no nothing - great!!!! Sullivan slept over and it was basically a lazy day.

Brent and Stacy both had people over in the evening. One of our speakers is blown and Josh The Doobie Brother told Brent that April was going to blame Brent but we really don't care. We know it wasn't done on purpose, no matter who it was. April just presented the problem wrong!

April 17/03

James went to the doctors to get some cough medicine. The sars epidemic is scaring people so that you can't even have a cough around people, they are all afraid. Canada is the hardest hit after China.

Monica went to the school dance filled with doubts about what kind of fun was going to happen. Brandy is after Cory, flirting, wedgie wars and Sam is still in the picture and Cory doesn't seem to care that Monica is bothered by it. Yet he doesn't want Jeff near Monica, one of his best friends. I told her before that if Brandy can get him, then he doesn't deserve Monica. I told her that the worst thing that she should do is to show people that it bothers her. I told her to have a good time and to act like she is even if she is not. If they see it bothers her it will happen even more.

Well things went all right at the dance, Cory and Monica never danced with anyone but Brandy said that she doesn't care if it means her and Monica aren't friends, she isn't going to stop flirting with Cory. Monica said it's not really worth it to be friends with her. She has tried to make friends with everybody even when kids tell her she shouldn't like Brandy and then look what happens. I wonder if Monica will change?

Nadia's GO train was held up in Ajax and she had to take another train. By the time she got to me there was 3 trains all coming in and the traffic to get out of the parking lot was awful, over an hour to get home!

Stacy had Coral Amy and Sullivan over and they had a few drinks of Tequila rose. Stacy broke out in a rash so I guess she can't drink that - scratch that off her list! She is enjoying her friends being with her and Sullivan as a group, I think she prefers it that way and they all seem to get along so I am happy for her.

Monica went to Cory's after pitching clinic and Cory fell asleep while playing video games. He really liked the pink top I bought her, loves the colour.

April walked over to the Loblaws plaza with Jodi and Amy and after pitching went to a sleep over at Jodi's.]

Brent went out with Alexio after work and I don't expect him back for the night. James talked to Brent about TJ, about some girls who seem to enjoy seeing their boyfriends in jealous situations and he said that TJ has only had two boyfriends in the two years he has known of her. It is the way she has been on other guys laps that has bothered James, and the reputation her last two boyfriends have, but it is up to Brent.

Nadia drank her blue stuff again "to make the Leafs win" but they lost in 3rd overtime. By that time she had no idea of what she was doing, but she did it for her team! she gets the gigles when she drinks.

Stacy went out with the girls tonight.

Brent is going out with TJ now, as the ritual goes he asked her out a couple of nights ago.

April 15/03

Fayden the dog, took me down this morning full force from behind, and my right side is very sore.

I have a headache, second day from the wine I had on Sunday. No more, I tried because James wanted me to join him but I can't handle it. I spent my whole life not drinking it and I can't tolerate it.

I went to OC and; there was a 5 degree change in temperature 71 degrees warmer here!

Stacy went to the OC with Amy and Sullivan. Stacy said that Sullivan's brother came back after being away for more than a month of them not knowing where he was. He has been alienated form his family after he got in trouble with the law. They are relieved that he is away from home as he was causing so much turmoil in their lives.

Brent went out with Nichol and Chrissie to visit Steve's new girlfriend.

James and I had dinner at the Kegs and later more neighbours dropped by.

I am sore from the dog bowling me over so I cut out early and went to bed early.

Monica told me that when Stacy and Sullivan passed her and her friends Sullivan had the lime green swimming goggles on with his head out the window screaming Holly couldn't stop laughing.

Monica is out with Cory, his mom will drive her home.

Brent went to the movies- with a bunch of people Jay who I haven't heard about for a long time was with them. They came back here for a while and then Brent had only TJ downstairs. Nadia asked who is that girl that Brent lays with on the coach she doesn't like it.

April 14/03

Took the car in for an oil change so James took me to Melanie Pringles for Lunch.
Nadia and Derrick forgot about two courses and haven't done most of the assignments so they will be very busy for the next few days. They had concentrated too much on the dance assignment. It was posted on the Internet and they didn't check it for quite a while. Tsk tsk. That is not like Nadia.

Nadia had to drink the blue drink in order for the Leafs to win. Way to take it for the team. Actually I am very proud of her that her choice is usually not to drink

Sullivan came over after school. Brent and Sullivan are both sore from there push up contest at the Alexio's on the weekend. They helped to get the door hinges fixed. Keith was over too and we watched Toronto win in second overtime. Brent and Sullivan talked about Stacy and him going out together, everything seems all right now. It was interesting to note that Steve, the guy Brent thought was so good to girls and the only one he would let go out with Stacy, is wondering if he should break off with his new girlfriend and have, like a bunch of girls, doesn't like to tell her what he is doing, out should be good enough. This makes me question how Steve feels about girls in general, he doesn't seem to hold girls in high esteem like Brent imagined he did and this is probably an eye opener for Brent.

I like that Sullivan is his own person, who really doesn't care what people think. We offered him a beer and he has only recently decided to drink beer. He had a few sips and then he gave his beer away. He didn't like it, most guys would sit there and drink it anyway to look cool. He doesn't seem to drink like the other guys do either. From what I can tell he is more interested in trying new drinks than trying to get drunk.

I always thought that Brents' group first tried drinking when they were in grade 8. I find out now that at Halloween in grade six, Adam's dad gave them coke with booze in it and they didn't even know, were wondering why all the pop had the tops unsealed. I want my kids to have a choice in what they do and he took away that right.

Sunday 13/03

Brent phoned in the middle of the night, around 2am, asking for a ride to Subway, I think not. Actually I had just gone to bed, 5minutes earlier and I would have. It is where T.J. works until 4:30am. Stacy had already come back from driving Sullivan home but I knew she wanted to get up early so I wouldn't let Brent talk to Stacy.

Stacy was studying all day from 6am. Nadia wanted dad's computer, but Stacy held her ground- she is getting more stubborn which is good, she used to always back down. She was on it ALL day with the occasional call from Sullivan. Nadia went to Derrick's all day instead.

Our neighbours all came over to see our couch and stayed for a couple of hours.

April was outside with Brit all day warming up for baseball. When she finally came in she was burnt like you wouldn't believe. It wasn't all that warm but sunny so all the kids were out.

Monica threw the ball with Holly for warm ups and then they came over and Holly played the piano for quite a while. I wonder if Colleen really understands how much Holly needs music in her life.

Brent stayed all night at T.J's. and I picked him up at 10 in the evening. From there he went to Adam's to study and stayed there all night.

Nadia is feeling the pinch of people catering to males when she saw Ian stuff he got from the Labatts party. She asked for a poster and the cup but was told they had to go back to Labatts but when Ian asked they gave it to him. He left the Stanley cup cardboard cut out over at our house and we all thought he had given it to Nadia or James. Turns out that Brent said that he had to give him either the poster or the cup when Nadia complained about not getting the cup he decided on giving Brent the cup. They wouldn't choose Nadia for the hockey trivia last night, no girls for that matter and she said she knew almost every answer.

Saturday April 12/03

We spent the day in Belleville for Monica's Volleyball tournament. The started off poorly but ending up getting 1 in pool b. Chelsea played 6 out of 8 games and really played well.

Nadia slept downstairs with Derrick last night, I wish she wouldn't do that, she knows better.
Stacy went through a red light driving Derrick home, and the police stopped the car behind her instead! Nadia went out with Natasha later.

Stacy did homework all day, she has to catch up, she has such a heavy workload. Sullivan stayed with her all day. I hope he wasn't too bored, he is so nice to her. He watches he when she is studying and if she turns her back to read he will satre at her back, kind of unnerving to me. I asked her if it scared her at all that he would do something like that, to stay with her all day when she couldn't pay him attention, he obviously really cares for her. She says that it doesn't because she feels the same way. I have never seen her hands on someone as much as they are on him (not blatant but like holding hands or touching his leg...that kind of touch), smile and laugh and just plain stare at him and she seems so comfortable that he is with her as much as he is.

When we got home we had hungry people. We really have to get a freezer again. We can't keep any frozen food in stock and with James and I away so much for sports, never knowing who or how many will be at our house, we really need a freezer. We want an upright and we will keep it in the garage.

Brent and six friends (he didn't pick all his close friends interestingly) and Nadia with her six friends went to Labatts Cup Crazy party in Oshawa. Ian, who Brent works with at No Frills won a Todd Marchant autographed jersey and was so happy to be there. He was talking in the third person a lot and kept saying "Ian is so happy" There were given $15.00, towards 5 beers. I drove them home, Alex was very drunk, the guys encourage him into thinking he is the life of the party by laughing at dumb things he says. When we passed his house he yelled, "there's my house!" They all laughed??? Stacy took them to Alexio's party. Sullivan came too and I am worried that Ian will be upset with him because he is one of Jessie's friends. Turns out he was fine, shook his hand.

Anyway I have to get Monica off of the phone, she snuck downstairs and is on the phone to her boyfriend after James told her to go to bed... bad girl!

Fri April 11/03

When Stacy and Jessie were in class he said something rude to her and she told him where to go. I guess you must have to fight to separate your feelings. I hope they don't end up hating each other.

James and I went to Gretzky's with Derrick and Nadia to the Studio 99 where we watched the Leaf game on a 40-foot screen. Nadia brought us up to the NHL office. At the end of the night I couldn't walk very good, my boots were killing my feet. Paul, who Nadia knows from school got them in free. Derrick's parents couldn't believe that we were going downtown with them they would never go, but Derrick explained that that is the way we are. I am just glad that Nadia and Derrick invited us to go with them, it was fun.

Amy's car had a bad gas leak and her parents noticed it when they came in and Amy reeked of gas. Apparently it was spraying out of the gas tank and they had to have it towed. That is so dangerous.

Derrick and Sullivan both stayed overnight. Derrick rarely does this, so I don't mind but Stacy and Sullivan, its different. If they are going to go out this staying over might pose a problem. The dating part could get complicated if he has to stay here too much. Dating means planning and arranging. It would be hard to do if he was always here on weekends. But he lives close enough, even if it is out of town that Sullivan can get himself back and forth. Also it would hurt Stacy's friendships if everything were always planned as a couple. The hard part is that he was staying at our house before he wsa Stacy's boyfreind, when he was Brent's friend so it is harder now to enforce him not staying here. Hopefully he will use good judgement and it won't become an issue.

April was in rare form when we got home. Amy told her sex took 20 minutes so she wore that out. April's explanation for why the door to the basement broke - Sullivan was chasing Stacy because he was 'looking for some' April broke it. I don't know about April, she looked strange to me, she was at the Kegs's earlier and she was hanging out only with the guys, I hope they are not misbehaving, the only time I have ever heard of April 'with' boys is at the Kegs's. I will have to keep my eye on her with them.

April 10/03

I went with Monica and April to get haircuts, we were there for hours. April had about 5 inches taken off because her hair was so frizzed. We went to get social insurance numbers but I need birth Certificates.

Monica and April asked me about TJ. April said she heard Doober talking about her and she had a bad reputation, that she had been called a slut. I said that if I were Doober I would be concerned more about my own reputation. He doesn't have a good one is known for having sex with a girl and then dumping them and I wouldn't want my girls going out with someone like him so he shouldn't do any talking. They don't like that Brent is lying with her on the couch all the time. This close contact with Brent and TJ is happening pretty fast and the kids are right, it would be better if we all got to know her before we saw her in that position.

Big Al came over asking why we didn't have April registered for baseball. He wants April on his team and also select. April, was so happy to know this. She tired really hard at pitching clinic.

Jessie has been fooling around with a girl from No Frills, a new cashier in a taxi with Shane right with them. It happened at the No Frills bowling thing on the weekend. Shane is telling everyone and made a point of telling Brent that they were really going at it. I told Stacy about Jessie and the cashier and I think she was surprised that he would make out with the first girl that came along considering the patience he had had with her. I think that Stacy can really let go now and that it helped Brent feel better about Stacy and Sullivan.

Stacy called me to get her home for money and a shower to get her grad pictures.
Stacy went out to dinner with Sullivan and then to Yuk Yuks and Amy came too. She keeps telling me that she has so much homework and that she will be in all evening and then she ends up with Sullivan, looks like she can't help herself. I hope he isn't distracting her a lot from her homework though. She is feeling guilty but I am sure she will get those books cracking, she always has.

New furniture came today, very Italian looking but it is small scale and that is what we need in that room.

Argued with mom about her corporal punishment, apparently it didn't happen. She can recall hitting them with a yardstick to try and make them practise the piano but when I mention Dave breaking all her spanking utensils, the wooden spoons, rulers and paint sticks and hiding them in the vents, well, that just isn't true she never hit her kids. Yeah right.

Kids are telling Monica that Cory had girls in his bedroom. Monica is puzzled at Brandy and Ashley going over to Cory's house, she doesn't want them to. She found out that they went over but Cory didn't tell her when he was on the phone with her, pretended his dad was calling him. Brandy tells her that she would never try to steal Cory because they are friends and then she tells other people that she doesn't care about Monica, she wants Cory. Monica is frustrated at home and I guess Cayla is the reason but she can't treat us bad because she is mad at someone else. Monica hit me, slapped really and called James a butt hole. For the weekend she can't go out after 8pm.

April 9/03

Stacy drove TJ home last night because I was already asleep in bed. When Brent came back home he was on the phone with her for most of the night.

I am thinking of taking off all the instant messenger services (ICQ) off of my computer. I like the fact that Stacy is on the phone talking instead of on the computer and Nadia doesn't use it or Brent. I don't want msn on because I know April would always be on it, most of her friends use it, she is on when she is at other peoples houses. I figure if we don't have it or its only icq she will play outside more or phone more people. Besides the written word has a way of getting April in trouble and this would lesson the odds.

We bought a living room set today, beige again, but James talked me into leather. I didn't want all my couches leather but it seems to be the only thing that holds up in our house. Dave and Marita came with us and we had to leave the store when James was bargaining because it was not pretty, the salesman does not know who to bargain. We went to the Tilted Kilt with them for lunch and James watched the Leafs with the first playoff game against Philly.

April 8/03

I picked Brent up from the movies after 1:00am, they saw 2 movies and then went for drinks. They served TJ alcohol even thought they knew she wasn't of age. She is 17 and in grade 11, one grade below Stacy.

April argued with Coral this morning, about leaving for school on time. Stacy said that April shouldn't have started it but Coral got carried away and threatened April, apparently she has quite the temper. I saw it at her birthday party, it is not attractive.

Stacy went to Sullivan's house for the evening after her Psyhio. They watched movies, and had dumplings, she said they are very good. It is nice that she is trying new food, and I hope that inspires her to try some cooking. She was kind of quiet about her time there, I felt like I was prying but I always ask about their dates so it is not me out of line, she just was acting distant for some reason.

Nadia and Derrick work all day on the backdrop for their press release.

Brent went out in the evening and came back with TJ but all the rooms where occupied so I had to talk James and Dave Keg's, kicked them out of the basement so Brent could have a little privacy with his new friend.

April 7/03

I couldn't take Caesar out in the field for his walk because the field is a sheet of ice. It is too dangerous to even take one step on it so I just walked him around the school.

I asked Brent about his personal life and what is keeping him busy and he said 'girls'. I asked if there was one in particular and he said TJ. I asked if she was the one with the crazy boyfriend and he said that if I meant the one who had assault charges and the one who beats up his girlfriend then he answer is yes. Brent doesn't seem to think that there will be any trouble but I think the charges were when he could have been charged as a young offender so I hope he is careful and handles it well. Brent said the night of Alex's party she kept sitting on his lap and other girls were too. Carla was on his lap trying to kiss him and when he politely got her off his lap she sat on Brandon Alexio's and now she is going out with him! She is one of the girls that is not too brainy.

Brent received so many text messages from T.J. today (over 50!) that Rogers phoned him when they noticed the surge in text message activity. T.J. broke up with her boyfriend in the cafe today, he cried and tonight Brent is going out to the movies with her. I hope he is safe. Brent was talking about Stacy moving too fast but now that he has something going it is a different matter for him, I wish Brent would just take a step back and let her be single for a while so they could get to know each other as a person.

Stacy's friends sent her home sick today when she fainted, but I noticed that she would only get dizzy when she got up quick. She has not been active lately so her metabolism is all messed up again, like mine. I also think that she was worried about Jessie but we have all been hearing Jessie stories about him and different girls so she shouldn't need to worry about how he feels. It is nice to know she still cares deeply about him. I told her to go out in the evening, she was going to go to a concert with Sullivan and friends until they found out is was 19 and over so she went to the movies with Amy.

When April went to school everyone knew that Crystal had thrown up on her and Jodi. I don't care what they say, when you are not feeling well you will want to go right home and the only time I know of people just puking all over everything is when they are drunk, not sick. People April didn't even know came up and introduced themselves to her and asked to be invited to her next party. It seems that it was a huge success!

James went to a hockey pool tonight.

There was a lot of whispering and nudging and winking at No Frills today about Jessie at the bowling party on the weekend. Something is happening between him and two different cashiers, whether it is the girls' wishful thinking or he was with someone. It is like a little soap opera there. I might ask Julie, she doesn't like Jessie at all, thinks he is a pig how he talks about girls, but then it has nothing to do with me, or for Stacy now for that matter.

April 6/03

Stacy and Sullivan came in pretty late - they weren't drinking, but Brent had called at 3:00 am, which he must have thought was about 2am (time change) if he was thinking at all. Brent was happy drunk but apparently had just opened the second Bubba just before Stacy and Sullivan left which Alex didn't like, he wanted the party over. Keith fell and cut himself up last night too. A girl there (TJ?) was sitting on Brent's lap too long, she has a boyfriend who was there eyeing the whole thing and I worry since it is the guy who is known for beating up guys who notice his girlfriend.

The two girls that were at Brent's party that I thought were lacking intelligence were there and making out/riding, different guys. It's kind of interesting to note that the behaviour that was around Brent last night, with the girls all over Brent, he would take extreme exception to if Stacy were involved in anything like that, not that she ever would, she is not like those girls at all.

Steve told Brent he wasn't going to the No Frills party either but he ended up making an appearance, which annoyed Brent because he would have gone too.

Sullivan slept in the family room because April had some girls stay over, they ordered a pizza and ate about 4am! I heard that Caesar wolfed down 3 pieces last night.

I had the urge to go down after I had retired for the evening and ask Stacy and Sullivan "what was going on down there?" in reference to the showdown last January at 3 in the morning, but I thought the joke might been in bad taste!

April woke me up, probably around 5am to say that one of the girls had thrown up. I had noticed her when I had gone down to get Sullivan's sleeping bag and she kept repeating how she wanted to sleep and it struck me then that if anyone were to have been drinking it would have been her. They must think we are pretty naive to think she wasn't but it might be a good lesson for them, to have a drunk throw up on them. I told April to put the comforter in the washing machine but this morning it wasn't there. April was freezing, looking for something to cover her for the night, since she was so cold. She puked on April and Jodi while she was asleep, how gross so April had a lot of laundry to do today.

We did our hockey pool tonight, Brent was a no show again but Nadia picked for him and we picked April's after we all had our pick because she was spent.

Stacy drove Sullivan home and before they had left she had asked me what I thought if she accepted Sullivan asking her out. He has been asking her out but she wanted to wait and now he feels like she has kept him waiting long enough and wants an answer. She wanted to know how I felt about it. I said that he had spent a lot of family time here (which most guys won't do) and we all got to know him (which counts for a lot) and she has to know herself if she has had enough space to have clear thoughts on what she wants. Because of everything that has happened she has to realize this is not just a normal going out. Sullivan's friendships, all the guys he has hung out with for 3 years are all in turmoil because of Stacy so she can't go in this lightly she has to take into consideration what is going to happen to his friends.

But she has really got to know him more than most relationships do, so I think she can make those decisions. I feel like Sullivan is a good choice. I love that he has her talking so much. That is all that I have wanted and pressed upon her all these years. She listens to him too, not like when Geoff did all the talking and she would just shut him out. She can learn a lot from him and with him.

When she got back she said that Sullivan asked her out in the car. They put the song 'Why Don't we get together?' on and the part with 'heads we get together, tails we try again', they both kept flipping coins until they came up heads. Cute.

Why Don't You And I

Since the moment I spotted you
Walking 'round with little wings on my shoes
My stomach's filled with the butterflies
And it's alright
Bouncing round from cloud to cloud
I got the feelin' like I'm never gonna come down
If I said I didn't like it then you know I'd lied

But every time I try to talk to you
I get tongue-tied
Turns out, everything I say to you
Comes out wrong and never comes out right

So I'll say why don't you and I get together an' take on the world
and be together forever
Heads we will and tails we'll try again
So I say why don't you and I hold each other, fly to the moon
and straight on to heaven
Cause without you they're never gonna let me in

When's this fever gonna break ?
I think I've handled more than any man can take
I'm like a love-sick puppy chasing you around
And it's alright
Bouncin' round from cloud to cloud
I got the feeling like I'm never gonna come down
If I said I didn't like it then you know I'd lied

Every time I try to talk to you
Get tongue-tied
Turns out, everything I say to you
Comes out wrong and never comes out right

So I'll say why don't you and I get together an' take on the world
and be together forever
Heads we will and tails we'll try again
So I say why don't you and I hold each other, fly to the moon
and straight on to heaven
Cause without you they're never gonna let me in

Slowly I begin to realize this is never gonna end
About the same time you walk by
And I say oh here we go again, oh

Every time I try to talk to you
I get tongue-tied
Turns out, everything I say to you
Comes out wrong and never comes out right

So I'll say why don't you and I get together an' take on the world
and be together forever
Heads we will and tails we'll try again
So I say why don't you and I hold each other, fly to the moon
and straight on to heaven
Cause without you they're never gonna let me in

April 5/03

I had a nightmare last night and it made it worse by James owwwing through the night from his sore curling muscles. Yesterday, Brent and Sullivan were talking about a piercing that one of Sullivan's friend Anthony (I think) was going to get in an area they didn't elaborate on too much and in my dream James had got it there and it would really upset me every time he owwed because of his legs. I thought it was because of the piercing! Weird!

Our continuing saga of this winter that won't go away delivered ice coating everything again last night.

Sullivan stayed with Stacy all day today. I wonder if she even realizes that she has never been with anyone for this long of period, that she does with Sullivan. She has always had a space around her that would prohibit someone being close to her like this. It is nice to see that she is letting someone get close to her and that she is enjoying him so much.

Nadia cut out to Derrick's early and came home very late, she doesn't like party situations. We asked her if Derrick is all right and she said that sometimes he gets a little moody.

Monica went to Cory's for the evening. James made her curfew for 11, which she tried to fight, she had some good points, that she would only be coming home to a party, and it wasn't like she could actually sleep. The fact remains she came home last night after 12 without permission and she has to respect boundaries.

April's party was huge, with a lot more guys than girls. The shoes were piled almost a foot deep, there was probably about fifty people at one point. They started throwing popcorn cornels so April had to bring the remains upstairs, and she confiscated a bat from one. There were some kids here that I haven't seen him in years since he ws expelled, still looking mean. Two guys came to the party looking wasted, April didn't think so, but he was.

I sent Stacy, Sullivan and Amy downstairs to do a check for booze and some girls took exception to it but we can't leave anything downstairs when there is a party. But Brent said that some of his booze was downstairs so we had to get the booze out. There was only one girl that if you had to pick, might have been drinking, but I couldn't smell it on her but she looked the part. It is so hot int he basement when there are a lot of people down there!
Chelsea came to our front sidewalk, didn't try to come in. Tara came in with a horrible cut on her face from falling on the ice.

Brent, Stacy went to Alex’s house for a party. Brent was supposed to go to the No Frills bowling party but they didn't show up. Brent and Steve decided not to go but I think they should, even if it is for a little while. Brent was talking about drinking 2 bubba's; I hope he has more sense than that. Sullivan is buying one too, they both just started drinking beer, so I hope they will be all right.

April 4/03

Because it down poured freezing ice pellets all night, it is too treacherous to drive, so my kids stayed home from school today.

Hung over James took hours getting home from Burlington from his curling match, and yes he is hurting big time from curling and yes I am taking full advantage of it. I am partial to sneaking up from behind and jabbing him in the leg right on top of his oh so sore muscles. He hurts so good, owwwing on each stair! He won a $$$$ knife for second prize.

Sullivan came over in the morning and hung out with different members of the family, blowing up balloons with April, visiting Stacy at work with Monica, the girls feel very comfortable with him around.

James went downstairs in the evening on his computer and was scared out of his wits when a huge balloon popped!

Went to Mark and Carrie's for cards. They have two lazy boy leather recliners that each costs more than the rest of the living room furniture combined.

Derrick was going to stay at our house tonight because of the freezing ice rain but he managed to get home. Sullivan stayed so Stacy, Amy and him went to a late movie, Phone booth, and I believe Brent went too.

Monica was at Cory's till after 12 - way too late. James wants to ground her but I think I can reason with her - that and Sullivan and Stacy explaining how early her had to be in at that age. She wants everything the older kids have now.

Monica let me win in wrestling in the evening until Stacy and Sullivan came in and then she started to put up a real struggle. Even though I have put on around 10-15 pounds in this last year, I doubt that could make the difference in me being able to dominate her like I was.

April was to have her friends over tonight to work on the basement and then all of a sudden she was going to the dance too. I told her to go somewhere else to sleepover because obviously she wasn't really intent on tidying up the basement, she wouldn't so I phoned Fran and asked if she could sleep over there. That way the boys could use the basement.

April 3/03

April's birthday, the big 1-5. April is glad to be 15; she says that it is a pain when you are under 15 because of the movies. Apparently she tried to get to see an adult accompaniment movie but they wouldn't let her in without an adult. So then she decided to see a kids movie but they charged her as an adult and she couldn't protest because she had told them she was older than she was to get to see the other movie!

James is Curling in his annual company bon spiel in Burlington so it is an obvious overnighter. As usual he did not work out a head of time so I can anticipate some whinning about sore muscles in days to come!

Jeff emailed Monica to say that if she weren't going out with Cory, he would ask her out. She decided a couple of months ago that it wouldn't be a good idea if she returned his emails and besides Cory doesn't want her to.

The piano teacher cancelled piano lessons and I cancelled pitching clinic because of freezing rain. We have had our share of bad weather for April already.

Shane and Jessie are teasing April that they are going to her party, apparently she has invited all of grade nine.

Stacy is stressed, too much homework hasn't seen Sullivan in days so I am glad that her studying is still top priority. He was with her for studying and work last week and I was surprised that she let him stay, normally she doesn't want any distractions but he seems to want to help her.

Nadia got a call from a university professor in Alberta that has done a study on negative coaching and talked to Nadia at work for 45 minutes. Nadia is going to send the professor her study that she did a couple of years ago on.....

April 2/03

I gave Stacy my car today so she could see Jessie at lunch. I didn't want her to drive with him, it is better to be in your own surroundings, just to make sure he is in a proper frame of mind. The poor guy has been through alot lately, with all the rumours about Stacy, compliments of Steve. She said that everything went well. Hopefully they will stay friends.

We took April out to dinner for her birthday and Gramma came too. Unfortunately we couldn't wait any longer for Nadia to get home from work, she was called in today because of a press conference tomorrow. Nadia was upset because she had just missed us. We phoned Derrick to pick her up and he didn't seem too pleased to do it. It is not like we always ask favours of him.

Stacy had a lot of homework She went to Jackie's for group work and is still at 12 working downstairs on it.

April was on the phone for quite a while and she doesn't have to tell me there is trouble. Tara kept phoning many times, Tara always tries to get her will across... she wants Chelsea at the party... and April is giving in... except James won't let her. I bet you she tries to start a fight between Erin and April.

Monica went to the first homework/sports club after school. She enjoyed the basketball. Her and Sam are the only two girls and there are five boys from her grade. It is a great idea that the principal is taking on herself and it is helping expel some of Monica's energy. This work to rule, no sports is hard on Monica, she is so used to being on the go all the time.

Mom checked up on the investments she has for me even though she won't let me see them. When she phoned the bank they said she didn't have any in my name!! She had to go to another bank to her safety deposit and take a copy of the certificate to prove it. She was in tears about it. I don't understand why she won't give me the certificates other than the fact that it is probably the only way she feels she has any control over my life.

May 2/03

I dreamed Nadia was getting married and she had a renaissance gown on and every time she undid a string she would fill out the slack, it was a nightmare. Nadia is at the marrying age and it breaks my heart that she is this size when she is so young and that is how she will enter her adult life. I wish she would try even a little. I saw Nadia's stomach the other day and she had stretch marks - new ones. It hurts my feelings that she is doing this to her body, I still feel that it is partly mine because she is part of me and I don't want to let this happen.

This morning, James found a box of condoms, was going to give them to Brent until I noticed that the expiry date was six years ago! I took them out of the package and was blowing one up to a balloon size when Monica opened our door and walked in. I was trying to deflate it and hide the package while the rest of the condoms all fell out al over my bed! I tired to hide them in the bed covers so I hope she didn't see what they were! James thought it looked hilarious.

We went to the bank to get Line of credit as there is a number of things we need to do this year, driveway, roof....

Nadia and Derrick stayed downtown after work to watch the Blue Jays win.

Stacy and Sullivan bought tickets to X-men, people cancelled on them at the last minute.

We went to Mark and Carrie's tonight, there neighbours were there too. His school hockey team won OFFSA! Now he is attempting to be a rep coach in rep hockey and he can't believe the screening process he has to go through.

When Stacy got home she tried to go downstairs and Nadia stopped them, saying that it wouldn't be a good idea. Nadia is getting bolder with Derrick and I don't know how to handle it.

April 1/03

What? Snow in April? WE GOT SNOW - LOTS OF IT!!!! Is this Mother Nature's April Fools joke? Driving to school was chaos; it took me half an hour there and back for a normally 10 minute round trip.

James and I had lunch at Tilted Kilt with Dave and Marita. The wings were really good. This is where Brent's group goes for 1cent wings on Sunday nights. We tried to go one Sunday but found it too crowded and too smokey.

Stacy has work all this week from 5- 8:30, but she is only sitting monitoring the halls Aerobic Police, they call it.
After her work Amy joined her to do homework.

Nadia slept most of the day after school until the hockey game.

Chelsea finally managed to weasel her way into April's party. Chelsea told April that Erin said it was all right for her to come to the party. She is trying to play them against each other, play her little games. James said NO WAY! Especially since she made a point of not inviting April and Erin to her party.

Brent has not come home since school.

Sullivan got a job at a moving company. I am happy to see him work. I was beginning to think that Stacy was his only agenda and it was making me nervous.

March 31/03

I woke up with a huge headache, James went to sleep last night with one. It feels like I have had caffeine, my head is resonating with sound.

April phoned me to bring her home at lunchtime, her stomach is hurting. She came home had a shower and then went to bed.

Brent is disillusioned with Centennial College. He is complaining that he already knows everything that has been taught and is bored out of his mind. He wants to be allowed entry into 3rd year but they will only allow him to do that if he pays $100. for every course he wants to be exempt from which equals 16 courses. That is more than the tuition costs. He says that his one course is 100% and he hardly ever goes. The school feels taht it would be an honour for him on his resume that he finished a three year course in two years. Brent feels that it is not worth it.

Sullivan came to Stacy's work where she was doing the Aerobic Policing and afterward they spent hours at Tim Horton's. I am so glad she as found someone who loves to talk with her. That is what I have always wanted for her.

Nadia bought April's birthday present for me, Truth or Dare Jenga and she bought April party food and glasses for her birthday! We both couldn't wait until April's birthday. I guess because she wasn't feeling good today so we had to give it to her!

Brent and James both had their doctors appointments cancelled because of the SARS problem in the hospitals.
